Or life or wealth, To which would you adhere?

得Đắc 與dữ 亡vong 孰thục 病bệnh. ？
Được với mất, cái nào khổ hơn?
Keep life and lose those other things; Keep them and lose your life - which brings Sorrow and pain more near?

是Thị 故cố, 甚thậm 愛ái 必tắc 大thậm 費phí. ；
Cho nên, yêu nhiều ắt tổn nhiều.
Thus we may see, Who cleaves to fame Rejects what is more great;

多Đa 藏tàng 必tất 厚hậu 亡vong. 。
Chứa nhiều ắt mất nhiều.
Who loves large stores Gives up the richer state.

知Tri 足túc 不bất 辱nhục. ，
Biết đủ (an phận thủ thường), không nhục.
Who is content Needs fear no shame.

知Tri 止chỉ 不bất 殆đãi. ，
Biết dừng không nguy.
Who knows to stop Incurs no blame.

可Khả 以dĩ 長trường 久cửu. 。
Có thể trường cửu.
