天Thượng 下hạ 有hữu 始thủy, ， 以dĩ 為vi 天thiên 下hạ 母mẫu. 。
Thiên hạ có khởi điểm. Khởi điểm ấy là mẹ thiên hạ.
(The Dao) which originated all under the sky is to be considered as the mother of them all.

既Ký 得đắc 其kỳ 母mẫu, ， 以dĩ 知tri 其kỳ 子tử. ， 既Ký 知tri 其kỳ 子tử ， 復phục 守thủ 其kỳ 母mẫu. ， 沒Một 身thân 不bất 殆đãi. 。
Đã được mẹ, thời biết con, trở về giữ mẹ, thân đến chết vẫn không nguy.
When the mother is found, we know what her children should be. When one knows that he is his mother’s child, and proceeds to guard (the qualities of) the mother that belong to him, to the end of his life he will be free from all peril.

塞Tắc 其kỳ 兌đoài, ， 閉bế 其kỳ 門môn, ， 終chung 身thân 不bất 勤cần. 。
Ngậm miệng, đóng tai, suốt đời không lận đận.
Let him keep his mouth closed, and shut up the portals (of his nostrils), and all his life he will be exempt from laborious exertion.

開Khai 其kỳ 兌đoài, ， 濟tế 其kỳ 事sự, ， 終chung 身thân 不bất 救cứu. 。
Mở miệng lo công việc, suốt đời không cứu được.
Let him keep his mouth open, and (spend his breath) in the promotion of his affairs, and all his life there will be no safety for him.

見Kiến 小tiểu 曰viết 明minh, ， 守thủ 柔nhu 曰viết 強cường. 。
Thấy được tế vi mới là Minh, giữ được mềm yếu mới là Cường.
The perception of what is small is (the secret of clear- sightedness; the guarding of what is soft and tender is (the secret of) strength.

用Dụng 其kỳ 光quang, ， 復phục 歸qui 其kỳ 明minh, ， 無vô 遺di 身thân 殃ương, ； 是thị 為vi 習tập 常thường. 。
Dùng ánh sáng của Đạo, để quay về sự quang minh của Đạo, thân không sợ tai ương, đó là tìm về vĩnh cửu.
Who uses well his light, Reverting to its (source so) bright, Will from his body ward all blight, And hides the unchanging from men’s sight.
