治Trị 人nhân, 事sự 天Thiên 莫mạc 若nhược 嗇sắc. 。
Trị người thờ trời, không gì bằng tiết độ.
For regulating the human (in our constitution) and rendering the (proper) service to the heavenly, there is nothing like moderation.

夫Phù 唯duy 嗇sắc ， 是thị 謂vị 早tảo 服phục, ；
Tiết độ là việc phải lo trước tiên;
It is only by this moderation that there is effected an early return (to man's normal state).

早tảo 服phục 謂vị 之chi 重trọng 積tích 德đức. ；
lo việc ấy trước tiên sẽ tích đức,
That early return is what I call the repeated accumulation of the attributes (of the Dao).

重Trọng 積tích 德đức 則tắc 無vô 不bất 克khắc. ；
tích đức cao dày sẽ lướt thắng được mọi sự,
With that repeated accumulation of those attributes, there comes the subjugation (of every obstacle to such return).

無Vô 不bất 克khắc 則tắc 莫mạc 知tri 其kỳ 極cực. ；
sẽ siêu việt.
Of this subjugation we know not what shall be the limit;

莫Mạc 知tri 其kỳ 極cực, ， 可khả 以dĩ 有hữu 國quốc. ；
Siêu việt sẽ được nước.
and when one knows not what the limit shall be, he may be the ruler of a state.

有Hữu 國quốc 之chi 母mẫu ， 可khả 以dĩ 長trường 久cửu. ；
Được căn cơ trời đất, nên có thể trường cửu.
He who possesses the mother of the state may continue long.

是Thị 謂vị 深thâm 根căn 固cố 柢đế, ， 長trường 生sinh, 久cửu 視thị 之chi 道đạo. 。
Thế cho nên gọi là ăn rễ sâu, mọc rễ chắc, đó là đạo trường sinh cửu thị.
His case is like that (of the plant) of which we say that its roots are deep and its flower stalks firm: - this is the way to secure that its enduring life shall long be seen.
