信Tín 言ngôn 不bất 美mỹ. ， 美Mỹ 言ngôn 不bất 信tín. 。
Lời chân thành không hoa mỹ. Lời hoa mỹ không chân thành.
Sincere words are not fine; fine words are not sincere.

善Thiện 者giả 不bất 辯biện. ， 辯Biện 者giả 不bất 善thiện. 。
Người tốt không tranh biện, người tranh biện không tốt.
Those who are skilled (in the Dao) do not dispute (about it); the disputatious are not skilled in it.

知Tri 者giả 不bất 博bác, ， 博bác 者giả 不bất 知tri. 。
Người biết không học rộng, người học rộng không biết.
Those who know (the Dao) are not extensively learned; the extensively learned do not know it.

聖Thánh 人nhân 不bất 積tích. ，
Thánh nhân không tích trữ.
The sage does not accumulate (for himself).

既Ký 以dĩ 為vi 人nhân, 己kỷ 愈dũ 有hữu. ，
Càng vì người, mình càng có.
The more that he expends for others, the more does he possess of his own;

既Ký 以dĩ 與dữ 人nhân, 己kỷ 愈dũ 多đa. 。
Càng cho người mình càng thêm nhiều.
the more that he gives to others, the more does he have himself.

天Thiên 之chi 道đạo, ， 利lợi 而nhi 不bất 害hại. ；
Đạo trời lợi mà không hại.
With all the sharpness of the Way of Heaven, it injures not;

聖Thánh 人nhân 之chi 道đạo ， 為vi 而nhi 不bất 爭tranh. 。
Đạo thánh nhân làm mà không tranh.
with all the doing in the way of the sage he does not strive.
