將Tương 欲dục 取thủ 天thiên 下hạ 而nhi 為vi 之chi, ， 吾ngô 見kiến 其kỳ 不bất 得đắc 已dĩ. 。
Muốn đem thiên hạ mà làm (theo ý mình) ta thấy không thể được.
If any one should wish to get the kingdom for himself, and to effect this by what he does, I see that he will not succeed.

天Thiên 下hạ 神thần 器khí, ， 不bất 可khả 為vi 也dã. ，
Thiên hạ là đồ vật linh thiêng, không thể làm (theo ý mình).
The kingdom is a spirit-like thing, and cannot be got by active doing.

為Vi 者giả 敗bại 之chi, ， 執chấp 者giả 失thất 之chi. 。
Hễ làm thì hỏng, hễ giữ thì mất.
He who would so win it destroys it; he who would hold it in his grasp loses it.

故Cố 物vật 或hoặc 行hành, 或hoặc 隨tùy, ；
Cho nên vật hoặc đi hoặc theo
The course and nature of things is such that What was in front is now behind;

或hoặc 歔hư, 或hoặc 吹xuy, ；
hoặc hà hơi, hoặc thổi,
What warmed anon we freezing find.

或hoặc 強cường, 或hoặc 羸luy, ；
hoặc mạnh hoặc yếu;
Strength is of weakness oft the spoil;

或hoặc 挫tỏa, 或hoặc 隳huy. 。
hoặc bền vững hoặc mong manh.
The store in ruins mocks our toil.

是Thị 以dĩ 聖thánh 人nhân 去khứ 甚thậm, ， 去khứ 奢xa, ， 去khứ 泰thái. 。
Cho nên thánh nhân chỉ ngăn sự thái quá, sự xa xỉ, sự tham lam.
Hence the sage puts away excessive effort, extravagance, and easy indulgence.
