道Đạo 生sinh 一nhất, ， 一Nhất 生sinh 二nhị, ， 二Nhị 生sinh 三tam, ， 三tam 生sinh 萬vạn 物vật. 。
Đạo sinh 1, 1 sinh 2, 2 sinh 3, 3 sinh vạn vật.
The Dao produced 1; 1 produced 2; 2 produced 3; 3 produced All things.

萬Vạn 物vật 負phụ 陰Âm 而nhi 抱bão 陽Dương, ， 沖xung 氣khí 以dĩ 為vi 和hòa. 。
Trong vạn vật không có vật nào không cõng Âm và ôm Dương. Ở giữa là nguyên khí dung hòa.
All things leave behind them the Obscurity (out of which they have come), and go forward to embrace the Brightness (into which they have emerged), while they are harmonised by the Breath of Vacancy.

人Nhân 之chi 所sở 惡ố ， 唯duy 孤cô, 、 寡quả, 、 不bất 穀cốc. ， 而Nhi 王vương 公công 以dĩ 為vi 稱xưng. 。
Cái mà người ta ghét là: côi cút, góa bụa, bất tài, bất lực. Thế mà vua chúa lại dùng nó để tự xưng.
What men dislike is to be orphans, to have little virtue, to be as carriages without naves; and yet these are the designations which kings and princes use for themselves.

故Cố 物vật 或hoặc 損tổn 之chi 而nhi 益ích. ， 或Hoặc 益ích 之chi 而nhi 損tổn. 。
Như vậy thì sự đời bớt là thêm, thêm là bớt.
So it is that some things are increased by being diminished, and others are diminished by being increased.

人Nhân 之chi 所sở 教giáo, ， 我ngã 亦diệc 教giáo 之chi. 。
Điều người xưa dạy, nay ta cũng dạy:
What other men (thus) teach, I also teach.

強Cường 梁lương 者giả 不bất 得đắc 其kỳ 死tử. ，
Dùng bạo lực sẽ chết « bất đắc kỳ tử ».
The violent and strong do not die their natural death.

吾Ngô 將tương 以dĩ 為vi 教giáo 父phụ. 。
Đó là lời của thày ta.
