The Seventeen Dynastic Histories are all embraced in the above.

載Tải 治trị 亂loạn,
知tri 興hưng 衰suy
Ghi việc trị loạn, biết được thịnh suy.
They contain examples of good and bad government, whence may be learnt the principles of prosperity and decay.

讀Độc 史sử 者giả,
考khảo 實thực 錄lục;
Kẻ đọc lịch sử, xét bản chép thực
Ye who read history must study the State Annals,

通Thông 古cổ 今kim,
若nhược 親thân 目mục.
Thông xưa nay như thấy tận mắt
whereby you will understand ancient and modern events, as though having seen them with your own eyes.

口Khẩu 而nhi 誦tụng,
心tâm 而nhi 惟duy;
Miệng thì đọc, lòng thì suy
Recite them with the mouth, and ponder over them in your hearts.

朝Triều 于ư 斯tư,
夕tịch 于ư 斯tư.
Sáng nghĩ đến, chiều cũng nghĩ đến.
Do this in the morning; do this in the evening.
